EIGHT REASONS FOR YOU TO VISIT LVIV

1. YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ARCHITECTURE

Don't waste your time on text books. The best “textbook” on architecture is Lviv itself. Lviv is full of wonders – the spires and arcs of the Latin Cathedral, the rennaissance arcades of the Italian courtyard are in harmony with the beauty of the Kornyakt Tower. If you are a lover of the Baroque period St. George's Cathedral is a must to see, if you like architecture from the end of the 19 th and beginning of the 20 th century, the world renowned Lviv Opera House will more than please you. A visit to Lviv will teach you more about architecture than the best professor at the finest university in the world.

Tour operator "Kiy Avia West", in Lviv can also organize excursions to other places outside of the city. You can take trips to Olesky, Pidhoretsky and Zolochiv castles. While roaming these ancient halls, listen to the legends about brave knights and beautiful ladies. You can see the ancient Krekhivsky Monastery and one of the largest and most important holy places of the Orthodox Church – Pochayiv Monastery.

2. YOU ARE FASCINATED BY ART.

Come visit the Lviv Picture Gallery – its collection of paintings will please even the toughest critic. Filled with canvases by Titian, Goya, Latour, Kaufman and Malchevsky, this museum could stand proud next to any of the most famous in the world. The largest collection of Ukrainian icons can be found at the National Museum. It gives one the opportunity to learn about the history and development of Ukrainian iconography from the XIV century to the present day. And in what antique shop can you see so many unique objets as are found in the Museum of Furniture and Porcelain ? Italian Renaissance chests and wardrobes by Boul, Chippendale tables and Shinoire cabinets can be found there. Also in this museum is a large collection of porcelain from Meisen, Sevre and Paris, complemented by a vast collection of Wedgewood china. In the Royal Halls of the History Museum, you can see beautiful silver and crests of the once Royal family. It does not stop there, just wait until you see the watches and clocks housed in the Museum of Ethnography, they are so lovely that you will wish that time could stand still. For those interested in ancient weaponry, visit the Arsenal Museum where you will find ancient instruments of battle from many different countries.

3. YOU HAVE A PASSION FOR MUSIC AND THEATRE.

You must come to Lviv. In May, there is an annual festival, “Vertuoso” where famous orchestras and musicians play for the public. In the framework of the ancient castles and temples of Lviv, music sounds spectacular. November in Lviv is for Opera lovers. Every year there is an opera festival which is named after one of the finest contemporary singers, Ukrainian, Solomiya Krushelnitska. In conjunction with that, for those who enjoy theatre there is a theatre festival, which showcases both plays written in Lviv and international ones, called “Zolotyy Lev” (Golden Lion). You may think that that is all - not at all! There still remains a festival of contemporary symphony music called “Contrasts” for you to visit.
It is not just in these two months that you can find spectacular presentations of music, theatre and dance- seven theatres, a philharmonic, hall of organ music and concert halls are in operation all year long.

4. YOU LOVE FOLKLORE.

What do you know about Ukrainians - about our habits, traditions? To really know us, one must live among us. While you are here, stop by the Museum of Folk Architecture and Culture. Amidst trees and fresh air, you will find old wooden churches, windmills and farm houses. The best time to visit this marvelous museum would be in June, when on Saturdays and Sundays, concerts of folk music and dance are presented in the amphitheatre. Orthodox Easter is also a great time to visit, staff and visitors alike walk around in national Ukrainian costumes, centuries old. All around Lviv, you can find crafts that will charm your eye and warm your heart.
